WHO ARE HEP Bikes AND WHAT ARE WE ALL ABOUT

Hi, I’m Huey, owner of HEP Bikes. I started the business in March 2024 after nearly 4 years working in a bike shop, but my interest in bikes started much earlier. I was working in a bike shop on Saturdays from the age of 12, and from then on I knew this was something I wanted to do for a living.

Starting HEP Bikes on my own was a big step. I began working out of a greenhouse, and now run the business from my home workshop. It’s still a small setup, but my customer base is growing every week and I’m focused on building a reputation for honest work, safe bikes, and reliable servicing.

I work on all types of bikes, but I especially enjoy working on older, solid bikes that just need the right care to keep them running properly. I believe a good bike should be safe, strong and built to last, and that’s exactly what I aim to deliver with every repair or rebuild.

HEP Bikes runs like a proper independent bike shop. I accept donations, offer part exchange, and repair and resell bikes to keep them on the road instead of going to waste. Every bike I work on gets the same attention whether it’s a quick puncture repair or a full rebuild.

As a SHIFTA Verified Seller, I’m committed to providing bikes and repairs that customers can rely on. I keep people updated during repairs, I don’t cut corners, and I make sure every bike leaves working as it should.

Because I run independently, I can also offer convenience that bigger shops sometimes can’t — including local collection and drop-off in the Watford / Bushey area, and fast turnaround times.

A full check over of the bike to make sure everything is safe and working properly. This includes adjusting gears and brakes, tightening components, checking wheels, and making sure the bike is running smoothly.

Adjustment and tuning of the gear system to make sure shifting is smooth and reliable. Includes checking cables, indexing gears, and making sure the drivetrain is working as it should.

Inspection and adjustment of the brakes to make sure they stop the bike safely. Includes setting brake alignment, checking pads, and improving braking performance where needed.

Removal of the wheel, replacement of the inner tube, and inspection of the tyre to make sure there are no sharp objects or damage that could cause another puncture.

Service of the headset (the bearings in the front of the bike that allow the handlebars to turn). This keeps steering smooth and removes looseness or knocking from the front end.

Trade pricing for organisations, projects, and partners who need bikes or parts at scale.

Straightening and adjusting the wheel so it runs true without wobbling. This improves ride quality and helps prevent further damage to the wheel.

Cleaning, regreasing and adjusting the hub bearings inside the wheel to keep it spinning smoothly and reduce wear.

A complete strip down and rebuild of the bike with full cleaning and servicing of all major parts. Ideal for older bikes, restorations, or bikes that need bringing back to top condition.
