Bontrager Privateer – Classic American Steel MTB Project

This is a Bontrager Privateer, built in the USA using OX3 steel tubing, back when Bontrager frames were revered for their ride quality, durability, and no-nonsense trail performance. At 17”, it’s a great size for many riders and an excellent base for a retro MTB restoration or tasteful modern refresh.

The bike is fitted with a Shimano Deore LX 3×8 drivetrain, a Sugino Mighty 350X crankset, and RockShox Indy suspension forks — all solid, period-correct components that are well regarded and still serviceable today. Braking is handled by Avid AD-1.0L brakes, and the wheels feature 26″ Maverick A SYM rims, another nice nod to classic MTB spec.

This bike is being sold as a project and will require recommissioning and TLC before use. It’s ideal for a collector, retro MTB enthusiast, or someone looking to build a characterful trail or town bike with proper heritage.
