We’re a bunch of volunteers in Harrogate bringing old bikes back to life. People donate bikes in all sorts of conditions, and we do the repairs needed to get them safe, rideable and affordable again. The bikes we sell on Shifta are part of that journey — every one has been checked over, priced fairly, and is ready for a new home.

The difference with us is that the money doesn’t just stop with the bike. All proceeds go straight back into charities and community projects, so when you buy from us you’re not only getting back on two wheels — you’re helping others too.

Yes — everything we sell has been donated, so all of our bikes are pre-owned. Some arrive nearly new, others need a bit of TLC, but every one goes through our workshop for checks and repairs before it’s sold. We make sure they’re safe, affordable, and ready to ride again.

It means we’ve run the bike through our traffic-light inspection system: brakes, gears, wheels, frame, all checked by qualified mechanics. If it passes, it gets the green tick. If it doesn’t, it never makes it to the shop. Simple.

Because every bike you buy does more than just get you riding. Our bikes are safe, affordable and given a proper check before they leave the workshop — so you can trust what you’re buying. But the impact goes further: every penny we raise helps support charities and community projects.

So when you buy from us, you’re not just picking up a bike — you’re giving an old one a second life, cutting down on waste, and helping good causes at the same time.

All of our bikes are second hand, so condition can vary — some are nearly new, others show a bit more history. What’s the same for every bike is that it’s been through our workshop. We check brakes, gears, tyres and all the key parts to make sure it’s safe and rideable before it’s listed. If a bike can’t be brought up to scratch, we don’t sell it.

We take in and sell bikes for just about everyone. From balance bikes for toddlers, to juniors, to full-size adult bikes in a range of frame sizes. Because all our stock is donated, the mix changes all the time — but we always try to keep something in for kids, teenagers, and adults alike.

We offer a 30 day warranty to cover any issues that emerge after the bike has left the workshop or any adjustments needed. With second hand bikes there can be issues that aren’t immediately visible in the workshop or on our short test rides and the warranty gives you peace of mind that if something goes wrong we will sort it out. We don’t cover damage or punctures!
